Director Rajkumar Gupta of ‘No One Killed Jessica’ fame is back with an edgy drama that is taken from a true life situation. Raid is a crisp and a gripping tale of an honest income tax officer who conducts a carefully planned raid on one of the most powerful men in Uttar Pradesh. The hardcore face off between Ajay Devgn an honest income tax officer and a local corrupt politician Saurabh Shukla is truly not to be missed.
Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn), an honest income tax office moves to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh with his wife Malini (Ileana D’cruz). After he gets the tip, Amay carries out the longest raid at the mansion of the most powerful and corrupt politician Tauji (Saurabh Shukla). Will he be able to conduct his raid successfully. Or will the politician’s clout make him bow down. To know the answer watch the film.
Ajay Devgn will hold your attention with his flawless performance as an honest officer. The actor has done this many times before in most of his films. But too much time is wasted in establishing his integrity that makes the viewers lose interest.
Ileana D’Cruz plays a role of a supporting wife, though she gets limited screen time, but has done the job well.
Saurabh Shukla is a show stealer as a corrupt politician with his wealth hidden in walls, ceiling and even sewers. The screenplay has given him enough space to inject interesting shades of gray into the characterisation without going over the top.
The second half is interesting as the RAID unfolds but there are a few glitches that could have been avoided. The background score at some places is too jarring. The film lacks the edge of the seat feeling that Neeraj Pandeys ‘Special 26’ gave us.
All in all a good watch over the weekend.
