Duration:2 hours 19 minutes
Rating: 3.5/5

Abhinay Deo of ‘Delhi Belly’ fame is back with his latest venture ‘Blackmail’ and as the name suggests it is all about blackmail but not one there are many. Yes, the story of the film is all about a middle class submissive man who cannot stand upto his boss nor his philandering wife. But he decides to take revenge in his own way. Irrfan Khan is back with a gem once again with this dark hilarious comedy.

The story of the film starts with Dev(Irrfan Khan) a toilet paper salesman who decides to surprise his wife by going home early with a bouquet to spice up his loveless marriage. But receives a shock to find her in bed with her ex boyfriend named Ranjeet Arora (Arunoday Singh). Now Khan is not one to walk the well trodden path and therefore decides to take a whacky turn. He starts blackmailing the ex-boyfriend of his wife who in turns start blackmailing Dev’s wife. Soon others too jump into the fray and soon everyone starts blackmailing someone for motive.

The first half is a little mundane but soon pick up as the the story unfolds with drama, intrigue all with a touch of humour skilfully embedded in it. The second half is a laugh riot. You will roll with laughter at the antics of each character.

Abhinay Deo has become a pro at such cinema, the music by Amit Trivedi adds to the story of the film.

Irrfan Khan has done justice to his character of a man who is too timid, that touch of uncertainty in his actions bring humour to all that takes place. Kirti Kulhari is good at what she does. Arunoday Singh as the lover is a rage. Divya Dutta as Arunoday’s drunken and dominating wife is perfect in her role. The best is Omi Vaidya as Irrfan’s adamant boss. Yes, the ‘3 Idiot’ guy with his whacky American twang is back with a bang.

All in all a must watch this weekend.
